First I made a backup copy of what I had, then ran 'cvs update'. It seemed
to do everything perfectly, merging whatever changes were on the latest
server image with all the changes I made. As far as I know, I didn't do
anything special. I ran a diff between the backup and what was left after
the update, and everything looked right.

My editor (emacs) knows that I'm working with CVS files; maybe it's
updating other files along the way that I don't know about, or it's
communicating with the CVS server. I'll try and find out what exactly it's
doing when it's editing CVS files.

KaosBeetl - how do those three seashells work again?
