[OpenVerse] ANNOUNCE: New Debian packages and OpenVerse Changes.
Well, I've finally learned how to do REAL debian packages, as opposed to
the "alienized" ones I had been using..
You can snag the packages at http://thebucket.org/pub/openverse
CHANGES:
One thing that I ran into was the naming convention that Cruise has been
using conflicts a bit with Debian's system.
So I changed it to read 0.8.3 where 3 is a patchlevel (similar to how
the linux kernel does versions)
That's why the debian package is now 0.8.3-1
It adds a proper menu item to the debian menu under Apps/Net.
In addition, to all this, OpenVerse now has a makefile... (woo!)
I think the makefile will be generic enough to use on non-debian systems
as well.
As I'm not a Makefile guru, if anyone has any suggestions to make it
better, send me an email.
Also, there's a small script called "openverse" that gets installed into
/usr/bin instead of a symlink... the reason for this is while making a
Debian package, if the Makefile creates the symlink, it ends up pointing
to my home dir, and not to /usr/lib/OpenVerse :/ So I decided to make a
shell script to start up OV.
Also, you'll notice that I changed "OpenVerse" in many places to
"openverse". This is also to make Debian packages happy (Debian has
standardized on lowercase package names)
TODO:
I plan on adding Gnome and KDE menu items (these are in the rpm but not
in the tarball?) in the future.
Add make clean and make uninstall to the makefile.
