This would be a good thing to do if sounds only came from a trusted source (IE,
the distribution... Noises for leaving, joining, url offers, etc) And I may opt
for this route. The issue with this idea is that you cannot put remote supplied
information on a command line. Not even a filename. The URL thing using a
configured program was possible only because it created a safe web page which
the browser loads and then refreshes to the actual remotely supplied url. This
method completely eliminates any user supplied data on a command line (I hope)
If I do opt for the above, I'm limiting sound support within the core to 2
platforms tops and I really don't like this idea.

Perhaps audio could be streamed directly to a player which comes standard with
windows? I'm sure I could figure out how gnome audio and kde sound servers work
but then I'm still in the position of creating code for 2 and a half platforms
and this is best done using the plugin system.

You'll never catch me claiming to be joe windows user so I could be totally
wrong here, maybe using the existing URL functionality really IS crossplatform,
but loading up nutscrape just to play a sound is definatly overkill.

Unless someone can convince me otherwise, sound will remain a project for a
plugin. I will gladly write the Linux sound plugin cause I really want this
feature. If I do write this plugin, it would support KDE, SOX, and NAS systems.
(I use NAS, I play MP3s 24-7 and have a seperate server for system sounds :))
