As Far as this goes, I would look at jabber.org.

I've used Jabber, and it's pretty sweet (I use the gabber Gnome
client). It allows you to add "agents" to the jabber server. Examples of
agents are ICQ, AIM, or Yahoo Pager transports. There's even an irc
transport.

It might be possible to add an OpenVerse Transport to it.
